Interstellar

DISCLAIMER: this blog in particular is a working of my processing the movie I watched today and also the ideas that I have taken from it even if they were not hear the directors intended and they probably weren't, I may add to it as time goes on!

I went to see Intersellar today I didn't have a clue what it was about until half way through. I have to say I find it hard to think of the redeeming factors of this movie but I as I think about it and as I talk about friends more redeeming factors will come to light. It is a kind of apocalyptic movie as with the corn crops failing and the dust storms the inhabitants of Earth need to leave it. Which I find very sad, but I suppose it is a reminder that for those of us who call ourselves saints earth is not our home. We are citizens of heaven. Recently I have been thinking about what is really up there in out of space. Especially as having watched a number of you tubes about how the universe is made up, it's absolutely massive. One can't comprehend it being a human being, we are so minute compared to the great universe. I've wondered is that what God looks like in some way, because after all he is above and beyond it all, and yet in it all. He's as massive or as tiny, yet still involved in my life, it's marvellous and yet terrifying at the same time. Plus absolutely mind blowing.
Back to the movie the characters go searching for life on other planets to no avail and they meet another character on the way who has become absolutely demented and try's to kill off the other characters in the process.
The movie talks a lot about time one example is that 1 hour would be seven years, this made me think about how to God time is non existent to him although there have been times when he has constrained himself by it.
I had this hope whilst I was watching the film that they would find God or heaven and some of the ideas could be seen as this, and yet if dimensions of time is a kind of heaven then I am sure that it will be far more amazing and beautiful than the images this movie conjured up. However the truth is it is more likely that this film was preaching humanism than any kind of Christian belief. However I tend to see themes of the bible or faith in any movie.
As normal there is the saviour narrative where someone leaves everything to rescue the human race in this case Coupe who leaves his family to go exploring for life on another planet with the hope that not only will they be able to move somewhere but also they will be able to transport everyone there too.
He is a kind of saviour figure who actually in many ways comes back from the dead after travelling through a worm or black hole only in his astronaught outfit flys through space completely improbable but nevertheless a kind of resurrection type scenario. There is also the imagery of Adam and Eve and symbolism as in out of space they are the only ones left alive.
It is sad that at the end of the movie all they have done is made a space ship look like earth and it all looks very artificial and makes u glad that we don't live in out of space.
It has made me wonder whether there are some authorities that are exploring the possibility that one day we could live in outer space but I for one am quite happy that we have the earth and I hope that we have it for a long time to come. However I am reminded of a greater reality I have of heaven which I believe is much more exciting than a time dimension. Nonetheless I find it hard to imagine and Contemplate what heaven is really like. The movie emphasises our need to live on, that we want to be eternal because that was the way God created us to be, also our need to explore and for adventure again because God has given us this desire for exploration and adventure and we are the most alive when we live and follow thins and ultimately when this involves following worshipping and loving our Father the creator of the galaxies and beyond.
